Where Empress Sissi used to stroll around

Italy's most beautiful garden is only a few minutes away from Hotel Sonnbichl: the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle are a flowering oasis in the middle of the Alps.

A natural amphitheatre opens impressive perspectives - not only on the 80 exotic garden landscapes, but also on the surrounding mountains and the city of Merano.

The twelve-hectare site is divided into different themes, and you will also find a variety of adventure stations and enchanting artists' pavilions. In the centre of the gardens stands the castle, which Count Trauttmansdorff had rebuilt from medieval ruins. 

Where Empress Sissi stayed twice for her winter holidays, there stands today the Touriseum, which boasts 200 years of tourism history in Tyrol and Merano in an original way.

• Open from April to October, daily from 9am to 7pm
• In June, July and August, Fridays from 9am to 11pm
• From 1st to 15th November from 9am to 5pm
